Fenwick Island

One of the symbols of Delaware’s Sussex County, the coastal town of Fenwick Island possesses a quiet charm that will reel you in, no matter the season. It is most famous, however, during summertime, when holidaymakers set up camp in town to enjoy Fenwick Island’s beautiful beaches and scenic natural attractions.

Fenwick Island is located in a rather peculiar spot– the most common consensus is that the town sits on a barrier island, but it’s actually just a narrow peninsula that resembles one. Although it’s a popular resort town, Fenwick Island is still notably more relaxed and tranquil compared to Rehoboth Beach and Dewey Beach, thus earning its place among the region’s “Quiet Resorts.”

Situated between Ocean City, MD and South Bethany, Fenwick Island remained an unincorporated town until 1953, when its position as a town was formalized. It only occupies a total area of under one square mile and is a part of the Salisbury, Maryland-Delaware Metropolitan Statistical Area.
